Legislative Affairs
Helped to secure the passage of the South Carolina
Real Estate Appraisers Act
Drafted S. 1018 / H. 4596 The Appraiser Independence
Bill, which is designed to protect appraisers from
coercion (including blacklisting, bribery, extortion,
intimidation and non-payment).
We hired a lobbyist to represent us and enlisted Sponsors
and Co-Sponsors for the bills in both the SC House and
the Senate
Successfully negotiated with SC Department of
Consumer Affairs to include language prohibiting
coercion of appraisers in licensing bills for mortgage
bankers and brokers.
We have active grassroots network of members that are
called to action and know their legislators. We send e-
mails, write letters and cards, make phone calls, attend
Committee and Sub-committee meetings, and visit our
legislators at the SC Statehouse.
SCPAC has gained national recognition for its legislative
efforts
SCPAC is working with other state coalitions nationwide
to create a ‘Coalition of Coalitions’ that will work to
protect our profession on national legislative and
regulatory issues
Political Action Committee
We raise funds to gain influence with decision makers.
SCPAC has created the only political action committee
in SC specifically for appraisers.
We have donated to SC legislators who support our
cause and our legislation.

Monthly newsletters that keep members abreast of
current appraisal events

you a model engagement letter that she wrote, that
was published in major appraisal publications and
websites. SCPAC members can use this as a resource for
drafting their own engagement letters. Engagement
letters define the Scope of Work and help to protect the
appraiser as well as the client.
