HOW TO FIND YOUR LEGISLATOR IN FIVE EASY STEPS
Step 1: Visit the South Carolina Legislature website at
www.scstatehouse.gov.
Step 2: Click on ‘Find Your Legislator’ in the top left
corner of the Home page.
Step 3: Type in your five digit plus four digit zip code (i.e.
12345-1234). If you do not know the four digits, go to
www.usps.com and click on the tab that says "Find a zip
code."
Step 4: Click ‘Find Legislators’
Step 5: Your national and state legislative representatives
will be displayed. Click on the highlighted names to
obtain contact information, a biography and
photograph for each.
COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR LEGISLATOR
Be respectful and courteous to you legislator, whether
you agree on an issue or not.
Be articulate. Avoid using anecdotes or complex
explanations to support your position.
Be honest. Your legislator does not expect you to
understand the subtle details of every issue. If you do
not know the answer to a question asked by your
legislator, refer them to the SCPAC Legislative Affairs Chair
and SCPAC Lobbyist.
Be grateful. Always thank your legislator for their time. If
you meet in person or speak on the phone, follow up
immediately with a handwritten thank you card.
Be useful. Encourage your legislator to use SCPAC as a
resource for real estate related issues.
Capitalize on your contact. Notify the SCPAC Legislative
Affairs Chair every time you communicate with your
legislator.
